Mr. Alfonso de Angoitia is co-CEO of Grupo Televisa, one of the main cable TV operators in Mexico, the leading satellite pay television system in the country, and the leading producer and distributor of Spanish-language audiovisual content. Televisa is a publicly traded company, listed on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores since 1991 and on the New York Stock Exchange since 1993.
Mr. de Angoitia has been Member of the Board of Grupo Televisa and Member of the Executive Committee since 1997. Previously, Mr. de Angoitia was Executive Vice President of Administration and Finance and Executive Vice President of Grupo Televisa.
Under Mr. de Angoitia’s leadership, Televisa has become one of the most successful pay television operations and one of the fastest growing telecom companies in Mexico. Among other initiatives, Mr. de Angoitia led Televisa’s consolidation of Mexico’s cable industry through which the Company has assembled one of the most attractive and competitive set of cable assets in the region.
In addition, Mr. de Angoitia led the multiple renegotiations of the Company’s partnership agreement with Univision, including the successful extension of its content licensing agreement.
Mr. de Angoitia’s vision has been key to the Company’s diversification, strategic positioning, profitability, and financial strength. As co-CEO, he has the shared responsibility of leading the transformation and repositioning of the Company’s content business.
Alfonso de Angoitia is a Member of the Board of Directors of various companies including Univision Communications, Grupo Financiero Banorte, Fomento Económico Mexicano (FEMSA), and Liberty Latin America. He is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Fundación Kardias, a Mexican non-for profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of care for children who suffer from congenital heart defects. In addition, Mr. de Angoitia is a member of the Board of the Mexican Foundation for Health and of the UNAM Foundation, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Paley Center for Media.
Prior to joining Grupo Televisa, Mr. de Angoitia worked as an attorney at White & Case LLP in New York City, and then co-founded Mijares, Angoitia, Cortés y Fuentes, one of the leading law firms in Mexico.
Mr. de Angoitia graduated as a lawyer in the Faculty of Law of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
